HD-DN Weblog

24th October, 2026

Starting this today! My hope is this will be a fun way for me to share my life online without resorting to shitty platforms. I saw the weblog on coolguy.website and thought, "That's sick, I should do that," so here we are.

I have a lot of old film photos on this site right now that are all very compressed. This is my own fault: I handle image compression with a script, and a lot of these images got processed again and again and again until they're kind of a mess. For example:

a street picture with compression issues in the sky

So my plan over the next couple of weeks is to pull out my backups of these pictures, compress them sensibly once and replace them. Maybe slightly worse from a page-loading perspective, but a lot better artistically. Maybe even make a gallery to show these photos in a better light. I'm proud of having taken them and developed them myself; it seems right to do them some justice, doesn't it?

What if I used nginx as a web server? That's what I've decided to do. I've converted a subset of my site to static HTML served with nginx, and I'm going to convert things slowly and deliberately. There might be some link-rot, but everything will eventually return.
